Dermatology FAQs

At Central Valley Dermatology, we want every patient to feel informed and confident about their care. Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often. If you don’t see your question, please contact our office and our team will be happy to assist you.

Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist?

Many insurance plans do not require a referral, but requirements vary by provider. We recommend contacting your insurance company or our office before scheduling your appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your photo ID, insurance card, a list of current medications, and any relevant medical records. If you are a new patient, we kindly ask you to arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to fill up your new patient forms.

How often should I have a skin cancer screening?

Most adults should consider annual skin examinations, especially if they have a history of skin cancer, excessive sun exposure, numerous moles, or a family history of skin cancer. Dr. Esfahani can recommend a screening schedule based on your individual risk factors.

What skin conditions do you treat?

We diagnose and treat a wide range of skin, hair, and nail conditions, including:

  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Rosacea
  • Rashes
  • Skin infections
  • Warts
  • Growths
  • Cysts
  • Skin cancer concerns

What cosmetic dermatology services do you offer?

Our cosmetic dermatology services include:

  • Anti-Aging Treatments
  • Pigmentation Correction
  • Scar Treatments
  • Vascular / Red Lesion Treatment
  • Laser Skin Rejuvenation
  • Tattoo Removal
  • Laser Hair Reduction

Treatment recommendations are customized to each patient’s goals and skin type.

Are skin cancer screenings painful?

No. A skin cancer screening is a non-invasive visual examination of your skin performed by a dermatologist. If a suspicious lesion is identified, a biopsy may be recommended for further evaluation.

How long does a dermatology appointment take?

Appointment times vary depending on the reason for your visit. Most routine appointments last between 15 and 30 minutes, while certain procedures may require additional time.

Do you treat acne for teenagers and adults?

Yes. Acne can affect patients of all ages. We offer personalized treatment plans for both adolescent and adult acne, including topical medications, oral medications, and advanced treatment options when appropriate.

How many treatments will I need for cosmetic procedures?

The number of treatments depends on the condition being treated, your skin type, and your desired results. During your consultation, we will create a customized treatment plan and discuss expected outcomes.

What should I do if I notice a changing mole?

If you notice a mole that changes in size, shape, color, or appearance, schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Early evaluation can help detect skin cancer and other skin conditions before they become more serious.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept many insurance plans. Please contact our office for the most current insurance information and to verify your coverage before your appointment.
